Jim Henry will be July 13 Song & Story Swap
guest
Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the July
Pioneer Valley Folklore
Society SONG & STORY SWAP.
Friday, July 13,
7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main
St., Amherst, Mass.
Joining
the July 13 song & story swap as guest performer will be gifted
guitarist and singer-songwriter, Jim Henry. Adept at
a variety of stringed instruments and with a style
that ranges from sweet country to soulful blues, Jim
Henry's recordings and concerts have elicited praise around the country.
Jim has three solo albums to his credit, most
recently Jacksonville on the Signature
Sounds label, and a collaboration with fellow guitar maestro, Brooks
Williams, entitled Ring Some Changes. On stage and in the
studio, he has teamed up with such accomplished folk
musicians as Ellis Paul, The Burns Sisters, Craig
Eastman, Jennifer Kimball, Maria Sangiolo and Mark Erelli.
Drawing on formative years spent in Kansas and
Virginia, Jim Henry captures
the essence of Americana in his songs with warmth and feeling. As
described in a Tucson Weekly review,
"Singer/songwriter/finger-style guitar
phenomenon Jim Henry explores musical roots [...] with honesty and precision."
The Song & Story Swap is an event where people of all ages gather to share stories and songs that may be
traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell,
sing, or lead everyone in singing, play an instrument or request a song or
story. Listeners are welcome, too. Admission is free, with
donations accepted.
The warm-up theme this month is Growing.
The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND FRIDAY of
every month. For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-253-9484 or
Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.
NOTE: There will be no Song
& Story Swap in August as we break for summer vacation. The
swaps will resume the monthly schedule on September 14.
