Marge Bruchac will be
September 14 Song & Story Swap
guest
Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the September
Pioneer Valley Folklore
Society SONG & STORY SWAP.
Friday, September 14,
7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main
St., Amherst, Mass.
September's
guest artist is storyteller Marge Bruchac. A
Missisquoi Abenaki Indian, Marge performs greeting and dancing songs in
both Abenaki and English, historical anecdotes of
colonial contact with northeastern Native peoples, and
seasonal stories of plants, animals, and
tricksters. With rattles, hand drum, and eloquent words
and gestures, she brings alive indigenous melodies and the wisdom of
lesson stories.
Marge has appeared at numerous festivals
and museums, including Plimoth Plantation, the Old Songs Festival, Odanak,
Mystic Seaport, Sagakwa Festival, and Old Sturbridge Village, where she portrays "Molly Geet, the
Indian Doctress." Last year she
was honored as Storyteller of the
Year by the Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and
Storytellers.
The Song & Story Swap is an event where people of all ages gather to share stories and songs that may be
traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell,
sing, or lead everyone in singing, play an instrument or request a song or
story. Listeners are welcome, too. Admission is free, with
donations accepted.
The warm-up theme this month is Beginnings.
The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND FRIDAY of
every month. For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-253-9484 or
Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.
Stone Soup Coffeehouse
Schedule
One
of local folk entertainment's best kept secrets is the Stone Soup
Coffeehouse, a series of house concerts hosted once or twice a month by
Bob Blue in Amherst. Bob's sharp wit and big heart have earned him a
legion of friends throughout the folk music community, and many talented
artists have traveled long distances to perform in the living room of
Bob's apartment which seats fewer than twenty people. Among the
well-known names whom Bob has booked are Bob Francke, Sally Rogers, Geoff
Bartley, and Charlie King. Scheduled to appear in the next month are
Eric Kilburn (9/15), Jay Mankita (9/29) and Priscilla Herdman (10/6).

schedule visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs/events/stonesoup.htm.
