Singer Judy
Polan will be November 9 Song & Story Swap guest
Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the November
Pioneer Valley Folklore
Society SONG & STORY SWAP.
Friday, November 9,
7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main
St., Amherst, Mass.
Guest performer at the November 9 Song & Story Swap will be vocalist Judy
Polan. Dubbed "New England's Folk-Glitter Queen", Judy's eclectic repertoire
meets at the intersection of pop, folk, and cabaret music, and she is
particularly known for her warm stage presence and zany sense of humor.
Four-time recipient of the "Favorite
Musician" award in the Valley Advocate Readers' Poll, Judy's 1984
debut recording Judy, Judy, Judy was described by Boston folk DJ
Dick Pleasants as "one of the best first albums I've ever
heard". Her "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud," a song set to Wordsworth's famous
poem, was chosen as the theme
song for a major international arts festival held in the Lakes District of
England in the spring of 1996. Judy has performed infrequently
in recent years, as she has turned to teaching music and contributing
essays to WAMC's Roundtable program. Don't miss this rare
opportunity to hear one of the Valley's most talented and popular
folksingers.
The Song & Story Swap is an event where people of all ages gather to share stories and songs that may be
traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell,
sing, or lead everyone in singing, play an instrument or request a song or
story. Listeners are welcome, too. Admission is free, with
donations accepted.
The warm-up theme this month is Birds.
The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND FRIDAY of
every month. For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-253-9484 or
Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.
