Folksinger Bob Norman
joins May 10 Song & Story Swap
Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the May
Pioneer Valley Folklore
Society SONG & STORY SWAP.
Friday, May
10,
7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main
St., Amherst, Mass.
Appearing as guest will be folksinger/songwriter, Bob
Norman.
Bob's gentle wit, intricate guitar and harmonica
work, and passionate singing have charmed folk audiences across the
country for more than 25 years. The roster of artists who have performed
Bob Norman's songs is a diverse group which includes folk great Pete
Seeger, blues and gospel singer Eric Bibb and Argentinian poet Bernardo
Palombo. Bob is former editor of Sing Out!, the folk song magazine.
"The guy can write a folk song." -Dirty

The Song & Story Swap is an event where people of all ages gather to share stories and songs that may be
traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell,
sing, or lead everyone in singing, play an instrument or request a song or
story. Listeners are welcome, too. Admission is free, with
donations accepted.
The warm-up theme this month is Colors.
The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND FRIDAY of
every month. For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-253-9484 or
Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.
Lou & Peter
Berryman at the Black Sheep on May 12
Rounding
out a fun-filled Mother's Day weekend in Amherst, the incomparable comic
folk team Lou & Peter
Berryman, will play a concert at the Black Sheep on Sunday at 7:00
p.m.
Lou and Peter, who hail from Madison,
Wisconsin, invariably leave their audiences chuckling, shaking their heads
and singing the infectious Berryman songs to themselves.
The show will take place Sunday, May 12,
7:00 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main St., Amherst, Mass.
Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at For
the Record,
194 N. Pleasant St., Amherst or by contacting Jeff Lee at (413)-256-0433.
Fast Folk: a
community of singers and songwriters
For
nearly two decades, New York-based Fast Folk Magazine regularly
published compilation albums featuring some of the freshest and artful
folk music coming out of the Northeast. More than 100 editions were
issued though 1997 when the magazine closed its doors and donated its
holdings to the Smithsonian.
Now Smithsonian Folkways Records has
released a 34-track retrospective entitled Fast Folk: a community of
singers and songwriters. Shawn Colvin, Suzanne Vega, John Gorka,
Richard Shindell, Lucy Kaplansky, David Massengill and our own Paul Kaplan
are among the artists represented.
