Vocalist Kate O'Connor to join September 13 Song & Story Swap

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the September Pioneer Valley Folklore Society SONG & STORY SWAP.

Kate O'ConnorFriday, September 13, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main St., Amherst, Mass.  

Appearing as guest will be versatile singer Kate O'Connor. 

A multi-faceted vocalist and keyboardist, Kate's musical repertoire is an enchanting blend of folk, Irish and rhythm & blues. She is a talented songwriter and is much in demand as a studio session singer, having recorded with gold record-winning songwriter Tony Romeo (I Think I Love You) and others. In addition to performing solo, Kate also fronts the Kate O'Connor Jazz Ensemble, a party band, Paris, and the popular swing music band, Blue Rendezvous. She released her first CD, "Soul's Door," in 1998 and has been voted Pioneer Valley's Top Female Vocalist in a Valley Advocate readers' poll.

The Song & Story Swap is an event where people of all ages gather to share stories and songs that may be traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, play an instrument or request a song or story.  Listeners are welcome, too.  Admission is free, with donations accepted.

Lou's Reviews – Márta Sebestyén and Muzsikás

MuzsikásOne sometimes must travel to hear good Hungarian folk music, and so Lou Wigdor crossed the state to New England Conservatory to catch a concert by Hungary's premier folk group, Muzsikás.  In the bargain he received a primer on Hungarian ethnomusicology and its famed founders, Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály.

He shares it all in Folk Virtuosos in Bartók's  Footsteps.
