Jack Kid will be guest
at February 14 Song & Story Swap
Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the February
Pioneer Valley Folklore
Society SONG & STORY SWAP.
Friday, February
14,
7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main
St., Amherst, Mass.
Appearing as guest performer will be Hancock, New Hampshire guitarist
and Singer-songwriter, Jack Kid. Kid has dubbed his original
blend of acoustic music "espresso ecstasy" which he has also titled his latest CD released under the NewFolk label. He describes his
style as "a brew-ha-ha of edgy urban folk, blues and ragtime
performed in the intimate, private atmosphere of coffeehouses, listening
rooms and house concerts." Independent Songwriter Web Magazine
adds, "Jack Kid is positive reinforcement in the quality of indie music
that is out there today."
The range of Jack Kid's songwriting will be recognized on his recent
CD with tracks running from the humorous "Omaha Cha-Cha" to the
dexterous fingerstyle instrumental, "Day Lily Rag," to the poignant
ballad, "Lockerbie." His recordings have been broadcast on over 50 radio
stations in 30 states, and his song "Ghost in the Family" got him to the
finals of the Unisong International Song Contest, 2000.
The Song & Story Swap is an event where people of all ages gather to share stories and songs that may be
traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell,
sing, or lead everyone in singing, play an instrument or request a song or
story. Listeners are welcome, too. Admission is free, with
donations accepted.

After the Fire CD
Release Concert on March 8
Song & Story Swap host Paul Kaplan holed up in the recording studio this
past winter and has emerged with an outstanding collection that represents
his first new release in 18 years. Called After the Fire,
it contains 18 tracks (17 originals and one traditional), and like his
earlier albums Life on This Planet and King of Hearts,
includes love songs, war songs, rebirth songs, funny songs, songs on the
human condition, and combinations of the above. It features backup
instrumental sounds from several Valley talents including Rico Spence, Doug
Plavin, Van Kaynor and Chris Haynes.
To celebrate its publication, Paul will
be performing songs from the CD in concert on Saturday, March 8, 8:00 p.m.
at the Unitarian Meetinghouse in downtown Amherst. Call
(413)-253-9484 or watch his web site at
http://www.paulkaplanmusic.com
for details on the show or how to order the CD.
