Singer-songwriter Thea Hopkins will join April Song & Story Swap

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the April Pioneer Valley Folklore Society SONG & STORY SWAP.

Thea Hopkins -- April 11 at the Black Sheep in Amherst!Friday, April 11, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main St., Amherst, Mass.  

This month's guest performer will be up-and-coming Boston-area singer-songwriter, Thea Hopkins. Thea has been gaining widespread notice since the release of her debut CD, Birds of Mystery, which the Boston Herald designated as one of the ten best local albums of 2001. The recording includes her critically hailed composition “Jesus Is On The Wire,” a stirring ballad about the hate crime murders of Matthew Shepard and James Byrd which has become a staple in the repertoire of famed folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary.

Possessing a pleasant, pliant voice and a talent for storytelling, Thea grew up near Worcester and received musical training at Boston's Berklee School. In the past year she has been finalist in the Susquehanna Music Festival’s songwriter competition and she received an ASCAP Plus Award for emerging songwriters.

Keepers of the Word Festival is April 26

Keepers of the Word FestivalStorytellers from across the country will spin their tales at the eleventh annual Keepers of the Word Storytelling Festival, a day-long event on Saturday, April 26, in the Keefe Campus Center Frontroom at Amherst College. Performances are scheduled for 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Appearing this year will be nationally known storytellers Brenda Wong Aoki, Charlotte Blake Alston, Antonio Rocha, Dan Keding and founder and director, Onawumi Jean Moss.

Springfield Storytellers Association meets monthly at Blue Moon

Song & Story Swap regulars Dan Lynch and Charlie Peck form the nucleus of the Springfield Storytellers Association which holds an all-comers story swap on the 4th Friday of each month.  The events take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Blue Moon Coffeehouse, 715 Sumner Ave. in Springfield (Rt. 21 across from the Bing Theater).

Lou's Reviews – Coming soon... Interview with Greg Brown

Lou Wigdor nabbed a ticket to Greg Brown's sold out Iron Horse show last month, and followed it up by interviewing the Iowan folk giant over the phone.  His report is in the works and Lou promises it will be "interesting reading."  Keep an eye on the Lou's Reviews web site.
