Norman Schell will
join November 14 Song & Story Swap
Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the November
Pioneer Valley Folklore
Society SONG & STORY SWAP.
Friday, November
14,
7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main
St., Amherst, Mass.
Joining the Song & Story Swap as guest artist will be renowned
folksinger and songwriter Norman Schell accompanied by his daughter
Galadriel Hunt on string bass, and his son-in-law Daniel Hunt
on guitar.
Norman is best known in the Pioneer Valley as the founder of popular
folk rock band Clean Living whose hit polka song "In Heaven There Is No
Beer" gained nationwide airplay. Norman's connections to the New England
folk music scene go back to Boston's 60s folk renaissance.
Norman and the Hunts, together with fellow Clean Living alumnus Rick
Tiven, have already gained considerable attention performing together as
Youth Well Spent.
The group's self-titled debut CD received an enthusiastic four star
review from Kevin O'Hare in the Springfield Republican. Their
October 2002 show at the Green Rooster Coffeehouse in Worcester was named
one of that city's top ten concerts of the year by Worcester Magazine.
More information about Norman Schell and Youth Well Spent may be found
at
http://www.normanschell.com.
The warm-up theme this month is
Birth.
The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND FRIDAY of
every month. For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-253-9484 or
Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.

Berryman will give a concert on Sunday night, November 9, 7:00
p.m. at the UU Meetinghouse, 121 N. Pleaseant St. in
Amherst. Tickets are $12 and may be purchased at For
the Record,
194 N. Pleasant St., Amherst or at the door.
For info call Jeff at (413)-256-0433.
Liza Constable
releases solo disc
Former Shutesbury resident Liza Constable has played
a masterful lead guitar for several popular string bands, notably
Chanterelle, Groovemama, and The Sevens. Now she steps to the
forefront with a new recording of her own called
In My Girlish Days.
Though she has relocated to Nelson, New Hampshire
where she lives with her husband, multi-instrumentalist Nat Hewitt, Liza
still makes her way back to the Valley periodically. She plays
Greenfield's Guiding Star Grange on November 8 with contradance band,
Small Tattoo, and the People's Pint in Greenfield on November 22 as part
of the Blue Ox Swing Band.
Lou's Reviews — La Bottine Souriante
On September 27, Lou Wigdor drove up to the Dartmouth College Hopkins
Center to hear the group that Dirty Linen Magazine has called "the
best band in the world." Did Quebec's La Bottine Souriante live up
to their billing?

Souriante in Concert: Quebec's Greatest Band Renews Itself Again.
