Laura Siersema will join April 9 Song & Story Swap

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the April Pioneer Valley Folklore Society SONG & STORY SWAP.

Laura Siersema at the Black Sheep in Amherst on April 9Friday, April 9, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main St., Amherst, Mass.

Featured will be pianist, poet and classically-trained singer, Laura Siersema. During the nineties Laura gave up a full-time nursing career to enroll in Boston's Berklee School and devote herself to music. She quickly gained recognition as a thoughtful lyricist and enthralling vocalist, as she opened concerts for such popular artists as John Gorka, David Roth and Cheryl Wheeler.

Laura Siersema recorded her first CD, When I Left Lost, in 1999 and followed up with last year's Love Flows Like the Blood of a River, which was released in Greenfield.

New England Folk Festival celebrates sixtieth birthday

New England Folk Festival -- April 23-25

Reportedly the largest folk festival in North America, the New England Folk Festival (NEFFA) will be sixty years old on April 23 when it kicks off at the high school in Natick, Mass.

The 3-day event is so large and diverse that it is difficult to characterize.  Hundreds of events — performances, workshops, dances, singaraounds — covering a panoply of folk art and craft topics are offered.  Whether you want to sing songs of the Spanish Civil War, learn how to fabricate wooden spoons, or dance zweifachers (a Bavarian dance form) there is a session for you.

Music returns to Montague Bookmill

Music series returns to Montague BookmillThe picturesque Montague Bookmill has hosted many memorable concerts over the years, and in fact was the site of the PVFS Song & Story Swaps for a period in the early nineties.

Performances will once again be returning to the bookmill with a new concert series being established by Jamie Barth, who chairs the board of Cambridge's Club Passim.  Brian Webb and Rose Polenzani played the first show on April 3, and Rob Laurens and Sarah Borges have been scheduled for June 5.
