Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the November Pioneer Valley Folklore Society SONG & STORY SWAP.

Kate Mesmer will join the Song & Story Swap on Nov. 11Friday, November 11, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main St., Amherst, Mass.

Guest performer will be folksinger  Kate Mesmer.

Kate has been captivating audiences since 1992 and the sold-out release of her debut recording Step Right Back at Pittsburgh's Rosebud. Since then she has been playing at clubs and festivals throughout the U.S.  Her performances include an appearance on Live From Passim in Boston, and a featured artist Spotlight at the Bluebird Café in Nashville.

One may trace Kate's musical talent back several generations. Her great-great grandfather conducted the Dublin, Ireland Symphony, while her great-great-great-grandfather on the other side, Franz Anton Mesmer, played the glass harmonica and was also famed for inventing a form of hypnotism that became known as "Mesmerism."

Regular church singing helped develop her voice, while a penchant for literate lyrics was sharpened during a stint as a Ph.D. student in English at the University of Massachusetts. Kate's fine vocals and songwriting may be heard on her latest recording, Lifeline.

Snail mail postcards being phased out

As traditional as we are, the changing times and cost of postage have forced a decision to send out our monthly announcements by email only.  Starting in December postcards announcing the month's Song and Story Swap will no longer be mailed. 

To ensure you receive the monthly email notices, please enter your email address in the form below.  This will also enroll you in the PVFS Google Group where you may post and receive news of folk-related events.  Or you may simply send a request to be added to the mailing list to PVFolk@yahoo.com.
