Tim Jennings & Leanne Ponder will join May 5 Song & Story Swap

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society Song & Story Swap.

Saturday, May 5, 7:00 p.m. at the The Nacul Center, 592 Main St., Amherst, Mass (see map).

Guest performer for the May 5 Song & Story Swap will be the creative storytelling duo, Tim Jennings and Leanne Ponder.

Tim Jennings and Leanne Ponder will join May 5 Song & Story Swap in AmherstTim Jennings and Leanne Ponder are among today's finest interpreters of the international folk tale. Their material is traditional and includes classic folktales from around the world, Irish and American folk music, and a few folk spoken word pieces they discovered "live," still in oral circulation in New England families.

Working in tandem, Tim and Leanne's voices intertwine and overlap in narrative counterpoint, creating a compelling alloy of technique and soul. They use Harp and concertina to weave music into the tale-spinning. Humor, suspense, pathos and exhilaration all play together, with elements of chautauqua, lyceum, and vaudeville.

Their storytelling albums have received major awards from the American Library Association and the Parents' Choice Foundation. Their music CDs have been acquired by the Irish Traditional Music Archive, in Dublin. They recently contributed four cuts to the FolkSounds compilation album English International, a history of the English Concertina with some of the best players from around the world.

Leanne Ponder, in addition to being a performing artist, is an award-winning writer and poet whose works have appeared in Esquire, Story, The Transatlantic Review, and other magazines.

Tim Jennings has earned his living as a storyteller since 1979. Wrote Sing Out! magazine, "From the first word, Jennings grabs you by the scruff of your imagination and throws you into his world.... He doesn't make the mistake of pretending to be a storyteller, he simply is one."
