Bev Grant will join October 5 Song & Story Swap

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society Song & Story Swap.

Saturday, October 5, 7:00 p.m. at The Nacul Center, 592 Main St., Amherst, Mass (see map).

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Bev Grant will be the featured performer atBev Grant will join October 5 Song & Story Swap in Amherst the October 5 Song & Story Swap.

Bev Grant is a veteran activist, feminist and labor singer-songwriter from Park Slope Brooklyn, where she has lived for over 40 years. A career devoted to writing and singing songs of social conscience has earned her numerous awards, from the 2017 ASCAP Foundation Jay Gorney Award, to the Labor Heritage Foundation's 2017 Joe Hill Award, with a past recipient list that includes Hazel Dickens, Utah Phillips and Pete Seeger.

Bev Grant has performed and recorded with the groups Human Condition, Dissident Daughters, Wool & Grant and the Brooklyn Women's Chorus, which she founded and directs. She has also released a 2017 solo album called It's Personal.

She co-wrote with Pat Humphries the protest song "No Sweat!" which they performed at the University Students Against Sweatshops conference. Grant's song “Inez” is included in the Grammy-nominated Smithsonian/Folkways Best of Broadside collection.

Bev Grant has been called "one of New York City’s treasures." She makes a rare area appearance at the October 5 Song & Story Swap in Amherst.

The theme this month is Sports. The opening round theme is 'sports'

Looking ahead to next month, the Song & Story Swap guest for November 2 will be versatile singer, musician and song leader, Annie Patterson, and the opening round theme will be Scoundrels, Knaves and Mischievous Rapscallions.

The Song & Story Swap is held on the first Saturday of each month, excepting July and August, and is jointly sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society and the Nacul Center.  Visit the Folklore Society website at http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.

The Song & Story Swap is open to the public, free of charge with donations accepted ($5 - $10 is suggested).  People of all ages gather to share stories and songs that are traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, or request a song or story.  Listeners are welcome.
