Jerry Bryant will join
March 8 Song & Story Swap
Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the March
Pioneer Valley Folklore
Society SONG & STORY SWAP.
Friday, March
8,
7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main
St., Amherst, Mass.
Guest performer at the March 8 Song & Story
Swap will be folksinger Jerry Bryant.
Jerry Bryant is a songwriter and balladeer with a
special interest in the music of sailors. Performing on guitar,
concertina, banjo, melodeon and other acoustic instruments, his repertoire
includes hundreds of traditional and contemporary songs. A careful
maritime researcher, Jerry's performances are not only full of good music
but are peppered with historical insights as well.
Jerry has been featured in the San Francisco
National Maritime Historic Park’s sea music concert series, Mystic
Seaport Museum’s annual Sea Music Festival, South Street Seaport in New
York, and many others. His composition, The Ballad of Harbo and
Samuelsen has been performed and recorded by several folk artists and
is the title cut of his first recording. His latest release, Roast Beef
of Old England, is a collection of traditional songs from the
man-of-war days of the British Navy, and is a companion to the seafaring
novels of Patrick O’Brian.
The Song & Story Swap is an event where people of all ages gather to share stories and songs that may be
traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell,
sing, or lead everyone in singing, play an instrument or request a song or
story. Listeners are welcome, too. Admission is free, with
donations accepted.
The warm-up theme this month is Women.
The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND FRIDAY of
every month. For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-253-9484 or
Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.

Conference Center in Rowe, Mass. will be the site of a Children's Music
Network workshop entitled Singing the Joy: The Heartbeat of Children's
Music. Featuring Sarah Pirtle, Kim Wallach, Sally Rogers,
Jackson Gillman and several more inspiring musicians and educators, the
weekend workshop runs March 8-10.

Bob Blue concert
photos
This
past February 3rd the Unitarian Society Meetinghouse in Amherst was jammed
with folks who spent their Super Bowl Sunday evening being treated to an all-star
revue of songwriter Bob Blue's music.
More than fifteen artists from around the
Northeast gathered to sing songs from the recent double-CD, The
Best of Bob Blue.
Photographer Fred Rosenberg
captured the event on camera. Check out his photos at http://www.filbert.com/pvfs/BobBlue/concert/default.htm.
