Eliot Bronson will be
June 14 Song & Story Swap guest
Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the June
Pioneer Valley Folklore
Society SONG & STORY SWAP.
Friday, June
14,
7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main
St., Amherst, Mass.
Appearing as guest will be songwriter and singer, Eliot
Bronson.
The mastery demonstrated in Eliot's guitar playing
and the depth and awareness permeating his lyrics belie the youth of this
twenty-three-year-old rising star from Baltimore. Over the past two years
he has worked his way into some of the East's top listening rooms, from
the Kennedy Center to the Kerrville Folk Festival, and has shared the
stage with the likes of Tom Paxton, Bill Staines, and Al Stewart. He
recently released his first full-length album entitled "One Hundred
and One Subtle Ways."
There is more information about Eliot Bronson at
his web site, http://www.eliotbronson.com.
The Song & Story Swap is an event where people of all ages gather to share stories and songs that may be
traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell,
sing, or lead everyone in singing, play an instrument or request a song or
story. Listeners are welcome, too. Admission is free, with
donations accepted.
The warm-up theme this month is Fears.
The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND FRIDAY of
every month. For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-253-9484 or
Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.
Lou & Peter
Berryman entertain at Mother's Day concert
"Lou
and Peter swept into Amherst on the second Sunday evening in May, leaving
the Black Sheep Deli coffeehouse seismically challenged from the barely
containable laughter of its standing-room-only audience." ...
Lou Wigdor was there to capture,
contemplate and comment on Lou & Peter Berryman's 4th visit to the
Black Sheep this past May 12. Read What
Again, in Amherst?!
Swimming to the Other
Side profile touches home
The
couple dozen luck music fans who attended the Stone
Soup Coffeehouse on March 30 heard Pat Humphries and Sandy Opatow
give a wonderful concert that was capped by a roomful of people singing
Humphries' signature song, Swimming to the Other Side.
This song was recently the subject of an
audio essay by Marika Partridge on NPR's All Things Considered,
which featured an insightful interview with local folk artist, Lui
Collins, who has recorded a version that adds a descant or second
melody.
The audio essay may be heard in full at
NPR's web site: http://www.npr.org/programs/atc/features/2002/may/humphries/index.html
