Singer-songwriter Colleen Kattau will join PVFS Song & Story Swap on May 1

The featured performer at the May 1 Song & Story Swap will be singer-songwriter Colleen Kattau.

Colleen Kattau Central New York-based Colleen Kattau is a bilingual vocalist songwriter who stirs listeners with her clear voice, collective spirit and rhythmic sensibility. Her compositions are full of nature, social movements, and Latin American nueva canciĆ³n.

Colleen has toured with Holly Near and shared the stage with Pete Seeger and Tom Paxon. She has been a selected showcase artist at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance and the Emerging Artist Showcase at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Under the name, Dos XX, she and her band won the 2013 Band Contest at Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance in Ithaca, NY. In 2019 she toured Italy performing at the International Ritmi y danze dal mondo Festival and at the European Ecovillages Conference.

Her music has been featured on "Democracy Now!" and she performs, along with other luminaries, at Phil Ochs Song Nights.

In 2020 Colleen released her sixth album, "Besos Kisses."

Looking ahead to next month, the June 5 Song & Story Swap will feature folk duo Simons and Goodwin.

The Song & Story Swap is held on the first Saturday of each month, excepting July and August, and is jointly sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society and the Nacul Center. Visit the Folklore Society website at pvfs.us.

The Song & Story Swap is open to the public, free of charge with donations accepted ($5 - $10 is suggested). Donations to the featured performer may be made securely via credit card or Paypal at https://pvfs.us/donate.

People of all ages gather to share stories and songs that are traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, or request a song or story. Listeners are welcome.
