Highlighting the November 6 online Song & Story Swap will be the popular Valley duo, Kate O'Connor and Rico Spence.

This versatile couple has lent their talents to a multitude of artistic collaborations and enthralled audiences with a wide variety of musical genres.

Singer-songwriter Kate O'Connor mixes skill on keyboards and guitar with a mellifluous voice that has earned her a past top spot in the Advocate Newspapers "Best female vocalist in Western Massachusetts" readers’ poll. She can render a sweet Irish air or belt out a swinging jazz number with equal ease.

Partner Rico Spence accompanies on bass and percussions, and has built an impressive resume as a studio musician, bolstering the recordings of Dar Williams, Brooks Williams, Bernice Lewis, Paul Kaplan and dozens of others.

Together they have formed the heart of dance band Blue Rendezvous and been part of the ever-entertaining acoustic swing band The Gypsy Wranglers.

Recently Kate and Rico have been moved to focus their creative juices on multicultural music and environmental awareness. Their recent collaboration, A Beautiful Future Band, celebrates world music with a lively, positive and joyful energy. The November 6 Song & Story Swap will be conducted as a Zoom online meeting, with registration required. To register for the event please go to https://pvfs.us/register-for-swap. The Zoom event is limited to 100 attendees.

Looking ahead to next month, the December 4 Song & Story Swap will present songwriter and singer of old songs Tom Smith. The theme for the round of sharing will be "Home and Family."

The Song & Story Swap is held on the first Saturday of each month, excepting August (and this month), and is jointly sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society and the Nacul Center. Visit the Folklore Society website at pvfs.us.

The Song & Story Swap is open to the public, free of charge with donations accepted ($5 - $10 is suggested). Donations to the featured performer may be made securely via credit card or Paypal at https://pvfs.us/donate.

People of all ages gather to share stories and songs that are traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, or request a song or story. Listeners are welcome.

Joe Jencks comes to Mt Toby Concerts on Nov 20

Joe Jencks comes to Mt Toby Concerts on Nov 20 Chicago-based folksinger Joe Jencks will perform at the Mt. Toby Concerts for Peace and Social Change. The event will take place on November 20 at 7:30pm at the Mt. Toby Friends Meeting, 194 Long Plain Rd. in Leverett, Mass.
