Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society Song & Story Swap.
Saturday, June 1, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at
First Church, 165 Main St., Amherst, MA.
Free parking is available in back of the church, and the meeting room is near the front.
The June 1 event is a special celebration of music of The Beatles and is our annual fundraiser.
The June 1 event will be a special Acoustic Beatles Night, featuring the performance and sharing of songs recorded by the Beatles or a former Beatle. Musicians from around the Valley will lead the Beatle songfest and singalong. Jon Sheldon, Pete Nelson, Marci Linker, and Jukebox John Hayman, are among the dozen or more artists who will take the stage.
Musicians interested in sharing one or two Beatle songs are encouraged to come and be part of the show. Instruments should be of the acoustic variety (guitars, ukes, hand drums, accordions, sitars, etc.). Electronic keyboards and direct lines are OK. Microphones for instruments and vocals will be available. There is a tuned piano that may be played.
Beatles song performers may also sign up by emailing Paul Kaplan at paulkaplanmusic@gmail.com. Get your song choices in early, before your favorite gets taken.
The Acoustic Beatles Night is open to members of the public of all ages. Admission is by donation, with a suggested minimum donation of $5-10, which this month sustains the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society monthly song & story swaps throughout the year. All contributions received at these events are passed on to the guest performer.
Come prepared to perform a song by or related to The Beatles, or just to listen.
The Song & Story Swap is held on the first Saturday of each month, excepting July and August, and is organized by the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society. Visit the Folklore Society website at pvfs.us.
People of all ages gather to share stories and songs that are traditional, newly written, or of personal experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, or request a song or story. Listeners are welcome.
